Instrumentation/Electrical Technician - Rapid River, Michigan

Plains LPG Services is currently looking to fill the position of Instrumentation/Electrical Technician at our gas processing facility in Rapid River, Michigan.  This position is responsible for maintaining equipment at the Rapid River, Michigan facility and may provide I&E support to Plains’ Kincheloe Michigan terminal on an as needed basis.


  • Installing, calibrating, testing, proving, troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation, including pressure, and temperature transmitters, gas detectors, control valves, meters, and analyzers;

  • Troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment;

  • Inspecting and testing the operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic devices;

  • Installing, replacing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems and related electrical equipment;

  • Testing electricalcircuits to ensure integrity and safety;

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting VFD’s;

  • Performing mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification, including removing and installing small piping and tubing;

  • Rebuilding control valves;

  • Providing technical input and scope development for operations, projects and turnarounds;

  • Performing scheduled preventive maintenance and completes test and maintenance reports;

  • Completing all written and electronic records (i.e. work orders, calibration sheets, time cards, material requests) required to document the work in progress and as it is completed;

  • Consulting manufacturer's manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints to determine tests and maintenance procedures;

  • Strong focus on safety and accepts responsibility for their safety performance;

  • Complying with Occupational Health & Safety Regulations as well as facility standards and procedures; and

  • Providing on-call support during non-business hours.



  • Minimum High School graduate;

  • 5 – 10 years prior experience in gas processing and/or field operations would be an asset

  • Must have a valid drivers’ license.

  • Capable of calibrating, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of process control equipment- including pressure, and temperature transmitters, gas detectors, PLC’s, Motor control center, control valves, turbine meters, analyzers and other associated field equipment.

  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of MS Word / Excel and e-mail; and

  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and optimization skills are required.

  • Maintaining permanent residency within 30 miles of the Rapid River facility is a condition of employment;

  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental issues;

  • Ability to identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.
