Controls and Automation Supervisor - Northwest District (Alberta)

 

Plains is currently looking to fill the position of a Controls and Automation Supervisor in Fort Saskatchewan.  The successful candidate will report to the­­­­­ District Maintenance Manager and provide oversight to a team that is responsible for a variety of PLC’s and DCS’s for our Northwest Pipeline, High Prairie Fractionation facility and Fort Saskatchewan Fractionation facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure employees and contractors are properly trained, competent and evaluated regularly
  • Hire and supervise tradesmen to safely execute maintenance activities
  • Conduct meaningful and timely employee performance reviews and manage people towards a culture of high performance
  • Evaluate and integrate contractor utilization to support the overall Maintenance & Reliability program, equipment availability targets and business objectives
  • Manage change through effective communication, risk assessment, training, coaching, and knowledge transfer
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the Controls and Automation portion of the Maintenance OPEX budget for area of responsibility
  • Provide approval for Materials and Service requisitions
  • Work with Operations Team Leads and Engineering to identify cost saving opportunities
  • Communicate and reinforce the PFS Maintenance vision and goals to site EI&C technicians and contractors
  • Work closely with the Area Maintenance Manager to ensure maintenance strategies are aligned
  • Ensure technicians are putting actual hours, detailed log, attaching QA/QC documentation and field completing work orders
  • Execute all Urgent and emergency work orders
  • Managing Daily Maintenance, in accordance with District Work Management Flow
  • Utilize skilled trades to efficiently execute planned work on the maintenance schedule.
  • Program Rockwell PLCs (Control Logix, PLC5..) – Discrete and analog control logic associated with processing and transporting of hydrocarbons
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electronic devices  such as computers, PLCs, and RTUs;
  • Program and configure Rockwell RSView systems
  • Support the PMC ATW process
  • Maintain 100% compliance with PMC core safety training

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma;
  • Post-secondary education (Electronics Technology);
  • At least 3 years of experience in programming  logic controllers;
  • Training on Rockwell programmable logic controllers is an asset;
  • Skillful knowledge of PLC programming;
  • Experience with hardware systems including but not limited to A-B PLC5, A-B Control Logix;
  • Programming experiences in Visual Basic, RSView SE Distributed, RS Logix500/5000, Honeywell DCS , and KEPware server;
  • Good understanding of software server technology based on the Microsoft Windows Server platforms, support and manage PI Historian, FPS, and PLM;
